unc v. u.va.: part two

And now, the part we had been waiting for all day... the game!

Cavalier Drumline getting the crowd pumped up...

Forming the Rotunda!  Soooo much better than our attempt at the Old Well a few years ago!

WAHOOWA.

Dear Old U.Va...

Getting ready for the teams to run out!

Kickoff under a gorgeous sunset...

This was at halftime... I'm just so impressed.

Seriously.

Clara and her boyfriend, Bob, came over to visit me at halftime!

U.Va. band's post-game show.  We won!

My aunt, uncle, and cousins post-game...

Final score: 44-10.  GO HEELS!

Love my baby cousin... who's not such a baby anymore!

What a fun day... I almost wish every game could be in Charlottesville so I could go there more often!  But it's back to Chapel Hill next year... we'll see what happens!

unc v. u.va.: part one

This weekend was SO FUN!  My youngest cousin, Cianne, just started her first year at U.Va. in Charlottesville, and my sister, Leanna, is a senior at UNC.  Both are in their marching bands, so since the game was in Charlottesville this year, my mom, dad, aunt, uncle, and cousin all came up for it!  It was so fun to get to see Leanna and Cianne both in their uniforms in the same place, and it was a little sweeter because UNC won its first game in Charlottesville since 1981!

Here's the whole family at our tailgate!

Then, we headed over to Cianne's band practice...

One thing's for sure... this band DANCES!

Walking around grounds... here's the Rotunda!

Thomas Jefferson in front of his Rotunda.

The Lawn... where the best and the brightest fourth years live and where my older cousin, Sam, graduated!

Rotunda from the Lawn.

Family walking across the Lawn.

George Washington...

And TJ again...

The Amphitheatre...

Then this miracle happened!  JUST as we got over to Observatory Hill to see Cianne warm up, Leanna and the UNC band walked by!  It was so good to see all of my old friends and get this priceless picture!

Cianne's clarinets in warm up.

Such a cutie!

Another section warming up.  Isn't U.Va. just beautiful?

My parents and me!

Here comes CiCi!

There she is!

Gorgeous Scott Stadium... we were so blessed with a beautiful day!

Aunt Susan insisted on this picture...

Ready to cheer on the Heels (even though the Wolfpack had already lost and Dad had to hide his distress).

Watching warm-ups from our seats.

LOVE MY SISTER!!!!!

I loved getting to see some old friends who aren't such young'uns anymore!  My favorite was Omar's scream when he saw me... priceless!

It reminded me of some oldies but goodies like these...

Good times!

Come back tomorrow for more pictures from the actual game!

p.s. i made this.

Molly and I have a new favorite book!  Well, that may not be entirely fair to say, because Molly devours books and probably has a million favorites, but this one is definitely my new favorite!  It's called P.S. I made this (hello, my life motto), and it just happened to be featured last week on Martha Stewart's Craft of the Day, which, of course, lands in my inbox daily.  The craft from this book that passed Martha's discerning filter was this awesome and completely unexpected bouncy ball necklace, which is not as ugly as it sounds!

It's made with black hosiery and basic bouncy balls, all stuff that you can find at the dollar store!  Anyway, Molly and I got the craft itch Wednesday night and decided to venture out and grab supplies to make some.  Bouncy balls are actually kind of hard to find these days because of the choking hazard (lame, my generation survived), but fortunately, the Dollar Tree already had their Christmas decorations out!  So...

...we grabbed these and just yanked the tops off of each one.  It worked beautifully!  Once we grabbed the hose, the whole process took no more than thirty minutes.  We just cut the waist off the hose, cut the toe off, then knotted one end, dropped each ball in and followed it with more knots until we were happy!  And this is what we got!

So cute!  To visit the P.S. I made this blog, click here, and to buy the book, click here!  It's the weekend, get crafting!

target shopping, molly style

Ladies and gentlemen, Halloween has officially taken over the Target dollar section, and Molly's here to patronize it.

If you need a coffee-addicted devil witch with a heart for breast cancer research, she's your girl.  If you just want to be one yourself, get your rear to Target.

Also, she may have set the record for most items carried without a shopping cart.  So hardcore.

(We like our yogurt.)

leanna's websites

I love my little sister more than just about anything in the entire world, and I'm so proud of her for both getting into the UNC School of Education and doing an amazing job as a student teacher and president of the Collegiate Middle Level Association!  She's going to be an incredible teacher.  Just unbelievable.

Anyway, as part of her Computer Science class she's required to take, she had to to build a couple websites, and I think she did a fantastic job!  So, go explore them!

Here is the one about our family...

...and here is the one about her favorite tennis player, Rafael Nadal.  Enjoy!

(more) new accessories!

Ok, so my first new accessory isn't really an accessory, but it IS a big deal!  Our office is in the middle of an October pedometer challenge, and we're all supposed to walk 10,000+ steps a day, which is about five miles!  It's harder than you think when you're not making the effort!  So, each week, once we reach 70,000 steps, we're supposed to check in, and whoever ends up with the most steps at the end of the month gets some sweet prizes.  I haven't quite been meeting my daily quota, but I'm trying!  I might need to run a few more laps around my neighborhood before Friday (or just shake the pedometer relentlessly until I get to 70,000.  Either/or).

Our HR Recruiter (and one of my favorite people ever), Tricia, is also holding a lunchtime walk around the Capitol Hill area on Thursday, so she asked me to put together a flyer for her.  That is soooooo my department!  Given that I can't download new fonts on my work computer and I had strict instructions not to offend anyone (i.e. the morbidly obese), what I came up with was a little sub-par by my own standards.  But, thanks to a sweet Google Street View shot of our office and my sweet MS Paint cut and paste skillz, we're in business!

Ok, I am SUPER EXCITED about this next thing.  Two of my good friends from college are in Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, and they, like pretty much all the fraternities and sororities, are printing up their own sunglasses a la the fake neon wayfarers you wore when you were five.  Anyway, one of them was nice enough to grab me a pair, and I LOVE them!

I will wear them always.  And definitely to the game this weekend.  :)
