granddaddy's trip of honor: the national law enforcement officers' memorial

Even though my grandfather was not a police officer, this memorial is special to our family because his father died in the line of duty in 1938, leaving my grandfather as the man of the house when he was only thirteen.  My great-grandfather was in pursuit of a criminal in Chesnee, SC when he suddenly had a heart attack and passed away, but the National Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial has honored him by having his name etched in the low walls that encircle it.  This was Granddaddy's first time seeing his father's name at this memorial, and just like the rest of the day, it was very special.

These lions symbolize the protection provided by law enforcement...

...and these cubs represent the citizens who depend on their protection everyday.

And that was the end of our trip around the memorials!  They were all very special to our family, and it was such a blessing to both have my family visit for the weekend and be able to experience all of these memorials with Granddaddy.  I hope we'll all do it again!

And Happy Veterans' Day!
