casey's marathon

My cousin, Casey, has officially qualified for the Boston Marathon!!!

This weekend, I went down to Raleigh and got to see her run in the Tobacco Road Marathon, where she finished in 3 hours, 25 minutes, and 49 seconds, which means she kept her pace at a 7:51 mile the whole way!  INCREDIBLE!  She not only placed 127th out of 1052 runners, but she beat her previous personal best by 17 minutes, and she looked amazing at the end.  I could hardly believe she had just run 26.2 miles!  She ran track and cross country for Clemson, so we all knew she was fabulous, but even a bunch of collegiate atheletes never make it to Boston!

There she is in the light blue shirt!  We followed her around to different mile markers, so this was 11 miles in...

Her friend, Kelly (in the green and white shirt) had already qualified for Boston but decided to run with Casey anyway to help her keep pace.

We saw her again at mile 17 and then caught up with her at the end!  Her husband, Bo, met her at several mile markers with his cooler full of energy drinks and pickle juice (to prevent cramping).  He did a great job!  All the runners got those crazy-looking foil blankets at the end to keep warm.  The temperature was 50 degrees and perfect for a marathon, but I'm sure it was chilly when they all stopped running!

Getting her mom on the phone!

And then she got in line for a well-deserved massage... I'm sure she's super glad I took these pictures, haha!

We're all very, very proud of you, Casey!  Can't wait to hear about it when you finish Boston!

I hope to be there to cheer her on! It might take several of us stationed along the route with her pickle juice!
